as not nearly as many folks are paying for factory letters on guns from the 1980s. We often use this to help date the much, much older revolvers. The next best way to get a closer idea is to find some kind soul that has gotten the factory letter for -HIS- gun with a serial number very near to yours, and see his letter or info from it. S&W currently charges $50 for this factory letter. This is terrific! But it's not a free service. He'll research your revolver and send you back a letter telling you exactly how it was ordered/produced, the date it was shipped, and where exactly it was sent. There are two other ways to find out (that I know of.)įirst is to send a request to S&W historian Roy Jinks. so, we have to kind of "guess" to be more specific. From reading earlier posts in this thread (I love the search feature), this appears to be a 1986 manufacture weapon. These were being phased out around 1982, I would think yours still has it. Should be a dash-3 variant, and I would guess that it does have the pinned barrel. Any idea on a year of manufacture?ġ981, says my SCSW. My ccw carry piece - S&W Model 64 2" SN=7D14xxx.
